How do I install mpv on CachyOS?

Run this in a terminal, then open mpv from your app menu:

sudo pacman -S mpv-git

mpv-git is in the cachyos repo, the CachyOS project's own package repository, so pacman installs it directly with no AUR helper and no build script. The package is signed with the CachyOS repository key, and pacman checks the signature before it installs.

What should I do after installing mpv?

  1. Open mpv from your app menu.
  2. Or run mpv in a terminal.
  3. Run pacman -Qi mpv-git to see the installed version and the optional dependencies.

How do I update or remove mpv?

Update:

sudo pacman -Syu

Remove:

sudo pacman -Rns mpv-git

    Is mpv in the official CachyOS repo?

    Yes. The mpv-git package is in the cachyos repo, version git_release_597_g1cc1b8cf11-1, built 2026-10-26. Install it with sudo pacman -S mpv-git.

    Do I need an AUR helper for mpv?

    No. It comes from the cachyos repo, so plain pacman installs and updates it, and sudo pacman -Syu keeps it current.
