Install Ventoy with pacman

  1. Install ventoy-bin from the official cachyos repo. pacman checks the package signature before it installs.
    sudo pacman -S ventoy-bin

First run

  1. The package installs the ventoygui graphical tool. Open it, select your USB drive and press Install. The drive is formatted and all data on it is lost.
    ventoygui
  2. After install the drive has two partitions. Copy your ISO, WIM, IMG or VHD(x) files anywhere on the first partition. Ventoy searches all folders and lists the images in its boot menu alphabetically.
  3. You only install Ventoy once. After that you just copy images to the drive, and you can still use it to store normal files.

Key settings

  1. Install options include GPT instead of the default MBR partition style, Secure Boot support (off by default), reserved space at the end of the disk, and the label of the main partition (Ventoy by default).
  2. The partition style option is only used during install and is ignored during update.
  3. After install you can reformat the Ventoy partition with exFAT, FAT32, NTFS, UDF, XFS or Ext2/3/4. A plugin configuration can limit the search to one folder.

Common fixes

My internal disk is not listed

To prevent mistakes Ventoy lists only USB drives by default. A Show all devices option lists every disk; be very careful not to pick the wrong one.

How do I update Ventoy on the drive?

Run the tool again on the same drive. It offers an update when Ventoy is already installed, and the files on the first partition stay unchanged.

Uninstall Ventoy

  1. Remove ventoy-bin and the dependencies nothing else needs.
    sudo pacman -Rns ventoy-bin
