ProtonPlus on CachyOS: install, first run, settings and fixes

Install ProtonPlus with pacman

1. Install protonplus from the official cachyos repo. pacman checks the package signature before it installs.
   sudo pacman -S protonplusCopy

First run

1. Open ProtonPlus from your app menu and pick a detected launcher from the launcher selector. It manages tools for Steam, Faugus Launcher, Lutris, Heroic, Bottles and WineZGUI.
2. Open the Tools view, choose a category, select a tool, then pick a release or variant to install. Proton CachyOS is in the built in catalog.
3. For Steam, use the Games view to pick a profile, change the compatibility tool for a game or edit its launch options.

Key settings

1. The preferences dialog sets the theme, background update frequency, the default Steam compatibility tool and the Steam profile.
2. The command line lists launchers and installs, updates or removes tools. Run protonplus list first to see the IDs the other commands take.

3. Install the latest Proton GE for system Steam from the command line.
   protonplus install steam-system proton-ge latestCopy
4. Update every managed tool.
   protonplus update allCopy

Common fixes

My launcher is not listed

Only installed and detectable launchers are shown, and which tools are offered depends on the launcher and how it was installed.

Downloads hit GitHub or GitLab limits

Add a GitHub or GitLab API token in preferences for higher API limits. Preferences also has proxy settings, an optional GitHub download mirror and a speed limit.

A change does not show up in Steam

Compatibility tool and Steam configuration changes need a Steam restart, which ProtonPlus coordinates for you.

Uninstall ProtonPlus

1. Remove protonplus and the dependencies nothing else needs.
   sudo pacman -Rns protonplusCopy
