- Developed a GUI for f3Closed
Hello! I'm not a real programmer and I'm still very new to this. However, I thought creating a GUI would be a good idea, so I created one for f3. I built it with AI and am publishing it on my GitHub page. You might want to check it out. This is the project page: I tested it on my…

When running F3 on macOS with exFAT-formatted devices, the tool may report systematic data corruption (typically exactly one cluster, e.g. 128 KB = 256 sectors) even on brand-new, healthy storage. After extensive investigation, this appears to be a tool–OS–filesystem semantic…

Hi I don't see a Discussions tab but I wanted to say thanks I love this tool and I also built (vibe coded) a similar project for phones. Fight Phone Fraud. I linked a shout out to F3 in the README and would love to add one here for F3p if you approve or if people are interested.…
- New graphical interfaceClosed
I've been working on a new graphical interface that can be installed via flatpak. If you like it, it might be interesting to leave a link to the project, in case anyone wants to try it. or

I bought a 3-pack of these drives last summer and the first drive died in a laptop shortly after use. I just found f3probe and attempted to check the second one, which came out as a good 2TB drive within seconds. Running f3write it appears to be good until you start hitting the…

I gout a couple of "4TB" SSDs off of ebay that turned out to be scams. They defeated f3probe, convincing it that they were legitimately 4TB (and ValiDrive, via an enclosure), but the one I tried f3write on failed at 123GB, so I'm guessing it's actually an 128GB drive. (It appears…

Debian still builds all packages for a couple of 32 bit architectures. Someone just filed a "fails to build from source" (FTBFS) bug against f3 in Debian, where it fails to build on i386 and armhf: The relevant error seems to be: here's the full build log: I believe this is a…

I'm successfully using f3probe on my laptop. Thank you for this great tool. I recently set up a Banana Pi SBC computer (armv7 armhf) and thought it would be cool to test this tool out on that platform. Agreed, the SBC is fairly limited but I thought 1GB of RAM and an additional…

The method used to avoid that f3read reads previously cached data does not work on Cygwin. This may result in false positive tests. Here is the local patch used for the new Cygwin package f3-8.0-2: BTW: It may make sense to use the (non-POSIX) flag ODIRECT on all platforms…

Dear maintainer(s), the last tag seems to be from 2020, while there is activity in the repository. Any plans on tagging a new release? Kind Regards, Johannes

Sorry for that (maybe) silly question, but is f3probe suitable for checking an external HDD's real size, or is this feature limited to flash block devices like SSDs, SDcards and USB Sticks? I checked my new external HDD (WD-RD37SY5G SATA6 disk being connected to USB3.2 Gen1x1 via…

Since updating to f3 10.0, running f3write on a 16GB micro SD plugged into an SD card reader via a USB hub throws up a ridiculous ETA like the one below. When I rolled back to f3 9.0, it showed this ETA instead. Seems like a bug with the f3write ETA, at the very least. Has anyone…

Hello, I maintain the f3-gui project. I need to ask here, i don't know if this has been explained before, but since the flatpak version compiles from scratch and includes everything in the same package, I noticed that even in version 9, f3-probe still shows that it's version 8,…

I don't want to have to learn Docker to use this on Windows. A windows version would be great!

f3read/f3write can't work on ARM due to use of unaligned pointers For example, in f3write's fillbuffer function, the void buf parameter is an unaligned pointer, which is unceremoniously cast to a uint64t , and then written to. This is undefined behavior in C -- pointers must be…
