How do I install eza on CachyOS?

Run this in a terminal:

sudo pacman -S eza-git

eza-git is in the cachyos repo, the CachyOS project's own package repository, so pacman installs it directly with no AUR helper and no build script. The package is signed with the CachyOS repository key, and pacman checks the signature before it installs.

What should I do after installing eza?

  1. It installs these commands: exa and eza.
  2. Run pacman -Qi eza-git to see the installed version and the optional dependencies.

How do I update or remove eza?

Update:

sudo pacman -Syu

Remove:

sudo pacman -Rns eza-git

What is eza?

A modern alternative to ls.

    1. Hi, call me old school, but my muscle memory is stuck on ls -ltr (-l = long format, -t sort by time, newest first, -r reverse order). As distros alias ls to eza I constantly run into this error message: eza: Option --time (-t) has no "r" setting (choices: modified, changed,…

    2. When called without a file or directory name argument, both ls and eza before v0.23.0 print the contents of the current directory to stdout. With v0.23.0, eza no longer prints the contents of the current directory to stdout. Is that intentional? This seems like a pretty…

    3. When stdin is redirected to /dev/null, eza with no arguments exits silently without listing the current directory. Now... this might sound weird, but redirecting /dev/null to stdin is how a lot of sandboxes work. This breaks in sandboxed environments (bubblewrap (i.e. claude…

    7. In eza default sorting is not the same lexicographical order as in ls command. The default sorting with eza is more like a natural sorting. Could you develop an option to get lexicographical sorting order? (eza --sort=lg for lexicographical) A second option to avoid sorting of…

    10. Version: 0.23.5 When using eza --icons, the following argument is consumed as the value for the flag. This causes issues when using an shell alias for eza, as the argument following --icons will be the file name. This results in an "invalid value" error. I am using fish and…

Yes. The eza-git package is in the cachyos repo, version 0.23.4.r42.g471bfbc-1, built 2026-07-13. Install it with sudo pacman -S eza-git.

Do I need an AUR helper for eza?

No. It comes from the cachyos repo, so plain pacman installs and updates it, and sudo pacman -Syu keeps it current.
