Install Sunshine with pacman

  1. Install sunshine from the official cachyos repo. pacman checks the package signature before it installs.
    sudo pacman -S sunshine

First run

  1. Start Sunshine once as a user service.
    systemctl --user start app-dev.lizardbyte.app.Sunshine
  2. Or start it now and on every boot. The service is also aliased to sunshine.service.
    systemctl --user --now enable app-dev.lizardbyte.app.Sunshine
  3. Open the web UI at https://localhost:47990 and create a username and password. Note them down. Your browser warns about the self signed certificate; the docs say to ignore that warning.
  4. In Moonlight, add the PC (manually if needed). When Moonlight shows a PIN, open PIN in the web UI navbar, type it, press Enter and name the device.

Key settings

  1. Add games and applications in the web UI. Running an app ends any app already running, and the stream stops when the app shuts down.
  2. Search for any configuration option with the search bar in the web UI.
  3. Shortcuts start with Ctrl+Alt+Shift: N hides or shows the cursor, and F1 to F12 switch the monitor being streamed.
  4. Sunshine can use a config file of your choice instead of the default location.
    sunshine ~/sunshine.conf

Common fixes

Mouse, keyboard or gamepad do not work after connecting

Add the user that runs Sunshine to the input group, then log out and back in.

sudo usermod -aG input $USER

A stream fails straight away

If the app exits immediately, as Steam does when run as a command instead of detached, the stream ends too. Add it as a detached app. If a prep command fails, the app does not start.

Where are the logs?

Open the Troubleshooting tab in the web UI and go through each warning or error.

HDR on Linux

HDR is experimental on Linux and needs an Intel or AMD GPU with HEVC Main 10 or AV1 10 bit encoding over VAAPI, KMS capture, and an HDR compositor such as Gamescope or KDE Plasma 6.

Uninstall Sunshine

  1. Remove sunshine and the dependencies nothing else needs.
    sudo pacman -Rns sunshine
