Install Shelly with pacman

  1. Install shelly from the official cachyos repo. pacman checks the package signature before it installs.
    sudo pacman -S shelly

First run

  1. The README recommends the CachyOS package. It installs the GTK4 app and the shelly command line tools.
  2. Open Shelly from your app menu to search, filter, install, update and remove packages in a visual interface.

Key settings

  1. Pick the native backend. RLPM:
    shelly config set NativePackageBackend rlpm
  2. Or go back to libalpm.
    shelly config set NativePackageBackend libalpm
  3. Show file sizes in the command line with automatic units. Megabytes is the default.
    shelly config set FileSizeDisplay Auto
  4. Show the full PKGBUILD during review instead of a collapsed diff.
    shelly config set CollapsePkgbuildDiff false
  5. Flatpak support is optional. Install shelly-flatpak-backend to manage Flatpak apps alongside native packages.

Common fixes

An AUR install fails its availability check

shelly install aur needs the package and its AUR build dependencies to be listed by the AUR service. If the service cannot be reached, retry once the connection is back.

Go back to the default progress bar

ProgressBarStyle defaults to Shell. Blocks and Pacman are also available.

shelly config set ProgressBarStyle Shell

Uninstall Shelly

  1. Remove shelly and the dependencies nothing else needs.
    sudo pacman -Rns shelly
