Install sched-ext Manager with pacman
- Install scx-manager from the official cachyos repo. pacman checks the package signature before it installs.
sudo pacman -S scx-manager
First run
- Open SCX Manager from your app menu. It is a standalone GUI derived from the CachyOS Kernel Manager that manages sched-ext schedulers through scx_loader. It needs a working polkit agent.
- Check which scheduler is active, then pick a scheduler and a profile: Auto, Gaming, Power save, Low Latency or Server.
Key settings
- Set extra flags for the chosen scheduler, or turn the current scheduler off. When a sched-ext scheduler stops, the default kernel scheduler takes over again.
- To see the flags a scheduler accepts, run it with --help.
scx_bpfland --help - The same controls exist on the command line through scxctl from scx-tools. For example, start scx_flash in Gaming mode:
scxctl start --sched flash --mode gaming - With the CachyOS power-profiles-daemon, switching power profiles changes the scheduler profile: Power Saver to Power Save, Balanced to Auto, Performance to Gaming.
Common fixes
A scheduler stalls or crashes
The wiki names ananicy-cpp as a common cause. Try turning it off as a troubleshooting step.
systemctl disable --now ananicy-cppCheck what scx_loader is doing
See the service status, or the logs of the current boot.
journalctl -u scx_loader.service -b 0scx_loader starts but does nothing
Do not run scx_loader.service alongside the old scx.service. Switch to scx_loader only:
systemctl disable --now scx.service && systemctl enable --now scx_loader.serviceA scheduler other users mention is missing
It may only be in the bleeding edge scx-scheds-git package, or not merged yet.
Uninstall sched-ext Manager
- Remove scx-manager and the dependencies nothing else needs.
sudo pacman -Rns scx-manager
