Install LocalSend with pacman
- Install localsend from the official cachyos repo. pacman checks the package signature before it installs.
sudo pacman -S localsend
First run
- Open LocalSend from your app menu on this PC and on the other device. Devices on the same local network find each other, with no internet connection needed.
- In most cases it works out of the box. Files and messages go over HTTPS, with a certificate generated on each device.
Key settings
- To start LocalSend hidden, only in the tray, use the --hidden flag.
localsend --hidden - If a device is hard to find, send manually by typing the receiver's IP address. If that works, add the device to favorites so it is probed directly.
Common fixes
Files will not send or arrive
Allow LocalSend through your firewall on port 53317. With ufw:
sudo ufw allow 53317Allow LocalSend with firewalld
Open the port for TCP and UDP, then reload:
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=53317/tcp && sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=53317/udp && sudo firewall-cmd --reloadThe other device is not visible
Turn off AP isolation on your router, which guest networks often have on. If a VPN is active, allow local network traffic or pause the VPN.
Transfers are slow
Use 5 GHz WiFi, or turn off encryption on both devices.
Uninstall LocalSend
- Remove localsend and the dependencies nothing else needs.
sudo pacman -Rns localsend
