Install downgrade with pacman

  1. Install downgrade from the official cachyos repo. pacman checks the package signature before it installs.
    sudo pacman -S downgrade

First run

  1. Run downgrade with a package name. It searches the local pacman cache and the Arch Linux Archive, then shows a numbered list of versions to pick from. A plus sign marks the installed version and a minus sign marks one you had before.
    sudo downgrade <package>
  2. Give several names to downgrade a set of dependent packages together in one pacman -U run.
    sudo downgrade foo bar

Key settings

  1. Search only the local cache.
    sudo downgrade --cached-only <package>
  2. Search only the Arch Linux Archive.
    sudo downgrade --ala-only <package>
  3. Filter versions with =, ==, =~, <=, >=, < and >. =~ is a regex match.
    sudo downgrade 'foo=1.0.0-1'
  4. Command line options can be set permanently in /etc/xdg/downgrade/downgrade.conf. See downgrade.conf(5).
  5. The --ignore option sets whether the package is added to IgnorePkg: prompt, always or never. The default is prompt.

Common fixes

downgrade exits with an error

The manual lists the common causes: running it as a non root user, a missing option value, no package found, an invalid selection, or pacman -U failing.

Let a downgraded package update again

Remove it from IgnorePkg with --unignore, which passes through to pacignore:

sudo downgrade --unignore <package>

Uninstall downgrade

  1. Remove downgrade and the dependencies nothing else needs.
    sudo pacman -Rns downgrade
