Install Claude Code with pacman

Install claude-code from the official cachyos repo. pacman checks the package signature before it installs.
sudo pacman -S claude-code

First run

Open a terminal in the project you want to work in and start Claude Code. It opens an interactive session in your terminal.

Log in by following the browser prompts. Claude Code needs a Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, Enterprise or Console account; the free claude.ai plan does not include it. You can also use a third party API provider such as Amazon Bedrock.
Check the install. A working install prints a version number.

Key settings

Print read only diagnostics about install health, settings file errors and warnings, without starting a session.

Settings live in settings.json. The /config command inside a session changes options such as the auto update channel (latest or stable).
Package manager installs update through your normal system upgrade, so on CachyOS you update it with pacman. To stop the background update check, set DISABLE_AUTOUPDATER to "1" in the env key of settings.json.

Common fixes

Search does not work

Claude Code uses ripgrep. The docs point to their search troubleshooting page if search fails.

claude still runs after removing it

You likely have a second install or a leftover shell alias from an older installer. A native install lives in ~/.local/bin/claude and ~/.local/share/claude.

Remove all settings and history

This deletes your settings, allowed tools, MCP server configs and session history.

rm -rf ~/.claude && rm ~/.claude.json

Uninstall Claude Code

Remove claude-code and the dependencies nothing else needs.
sudo pacman -Rns claude-code
