Add some way to show a floating window on all workspaces. For things like picture-in-picture, webcam, etc. I'm not entirely sure what would be the best way to structure the code. 1. UX-wise, it would make sense to have an extra floating space for pinned windows on a Monitor, that…

Instead of infinite horizontal and fixed vertical space, for portrait monitors it makes sense to have infinite vertical and fixed horizontal space. So the same scrolling layout, but going down instead of to the right. And I guess workspaces go sideways then? Originally requested…

Needs EIS most likely.

These are special workspaces that you can bring up on top of the current workspace. They don't show up in the workspace list. One example use is putting a volume control window on a scratch workspace, so that you can bring it up anywhere you are. Or a dropdown terminal like thing…

Currently you can set a custom shader for short animations (window open, close, resize) but not for something long-running. For example, you can't put a custom shader on a window or an output in general. This can be used for fun effects, but also for things like grayscale mode,…

The ability to configure multiple binding modes with separate binds. An example use-case is a "launcher" mode, where e.g. you press Super+D, then instead of the normal binds, you have binds to run applications, like F for firefox, N for nautilus, T for terminal, etc. So you press…
- OverviewClosed
Something that zooms out and lets you see multiple workspaces and windows on each monitor. The design concepts here are very close to what I have in mind: Actual interactions in the overview (click on window to focus it scrolling it into view? moving windows around workspaces…
- Zoom/magnifierOpen
Accessibility feature that zooms in the screen around the cursor. This works but is a bit fiddly to run. Need to see how the magnifier works in other compositors, especially GNOME and KDE. I pretty much never used it so I'm not sure what the expected UX is. Tentatively, I'm…

Useful for games and stuff to get the lowest input latency. We're mainly waiting for which is waiting for some driver stuff (?). Then on the niri side we can make tearing a window rule just like on-demand VRR. There's also for the Wayland protocol, which is needed so windows can…

Currently you can set resolution, refresh rate, vrr, scale, transform, etc for each output. However, there's no way to control the bit depth of a display through Niri (Such as running a display in 8 or 10 bit mode). This seems like a strange thing to not have access to…

When launching certain apps (in my case, modded Celeste via Olympus, though other apps may also trigger it), xwayland-satellite crashes, taking down Steam and any other apps running through it. This does not appear to be an xwayland-satellite bug, as manually running it manually…

Hi, I'm using Niri on Arch Linux with Wayland, along with Kwybars and Ironbar. I've encountered an intermittent issue where Kwybars sometimes suddenly disappears from the screen, even though its process is still running. My configuration is correct, and this issue doesn't happen…

When running niri-session through /usr/share/wayland-sessions/niri.desktop I only get a black screen. I can reliably reproduce this issue with SDDM and GDM. No obvious errors in the display manager's log. No logs at all for niri.service. When I log in on a TTY and run…

niri owns the D-Bus session bus name org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver and exports that interface with only Inhibit and UnInhibit. However, I believe that niri's implementation is incomplete. While the freedesktop idle-inhibit spec defines only Inhibit and UnInhibit, the original KDE…

For example, if a remote desktop client has the keyboard grabbed and niri's modifier is Super, and you try to Super+drag something around in it (with any mouse button), niri handles it itself (and the client just gets the Super press/release). This happens regardless of whether…
